“The Downs...too much for one pair of eyes, enough to float a whole population in happiness.”

Virginia Woolf

20-27th August 2022

Come and have the ‘Downs and Weald Revealed’ at the inaugural Petersfield Walking Festival this August. Nestled at the foot of the South Downs, where dramatic chalk scarp meets patchwork weald, heavily wooded sandstone ridges and colourful open heath, Petersfield is a striking location for this exciting new walking festival.

47 Walks over 8 days - August 2022

Our knowledgeable, volunteer leaders have planned a wide variety of walks: circuits around charming pubs and areas of historical interest; rambles showcasing the natural environment; long-distance linear routes for the more athletic; as well as family-friendly strolls and romps for our 4-legged friends, each revealing different aspects of this unique Downs and Weald area.

This weeklong event from 20-27 August is for habitual hikers, seasonal striders, weekend wanderers and amateur adventurers. With the best road and rail connections within the South Downs National Park, Petersfield is an easy place to reach for the start of your exploratory and sensory journey.

With more than 46 walks on offer over the 8 days there’s something for everyone. Check out the festival programme and link to sources of self-guided walks in the local area to find free walks to suit your ability, dates and interests.

This free walking Festival would not be possible without the financial support from many organisations and without the time given by the amazing group of people who lead the walks and those who have helped behind the scenes.

Thank you to all those who have played a part in bringing this festival to life.
