Walk 22 - Sunday Social Stroll

  • DATE: Sunday 14 May 2023

  • TIME: 14.00

  • START LOCATION: The Market Square, Petersfield

  • DISTANCE: 1-2 miles

  • DURATION: 1 hour 30 mins

Would you like to fill that quiet downtime between 2 pm & 3 pm on a Sunday afternoon? Need encouragement to go out for a walk? Not fit but enjoy walking and would love some company along the way? Well, this gentle walk and talk around town with the Social Strollers will help you get started and provide a cuppa at the end.

No walking boots needed! Join volunteers from East Hampshire Community Rail Partnership led by Andy Cato, an experienced tour guide, for this gentle social stroll around Petersfield’s lovely heath. The walk will start down the impressive Avenue, make a circuit of the pond and return for tea and cakes at the Hub. On the way there will be a few stories about our town, and we can consider the depths of our history with the largest collection of bronze age barrows in England,  as well as the wide diversity of water fowl.

The walk is part of a series of social strolls to be held (where possible) on the second Sunday each month.

The Social Strollers are a wellness walking group set up by the Hills to Harbour Community Rail Partnership. The group is for people who are not hikers but enjoy going out for a stroll in the fresh air with company on a Sunday afternoon. HHCRP works with the local community to promote the use of sustainable travel. They bring the railway to the community and the community to the railway. On their website and at their tourist hub at Petersfield Railway station they have a number of walks and cycle rides that can all be enjoyed using public transport.
