Walk 42 - Turning A Circle Around The Dell

east meon
  • DATE: Saturday 5 August 2023

  • TIME:  14.00

  • START LOCATION: The Dell, Bereleigh, East Meon

  • POST CODE: GU32 1PH

  • DISTANCE: 5 miles

  • DURATION: approx 2 hours 30

Come and join us for a short circumnavigation of the 2,500 acre Bereleigh Estate outside the pretty village of East Meon, which boosts the source of the beautiful Meon chalk stream. The estate has been described as “one of the prettiest and most attractive small sporting, residential and agricultural estates in the South of England”. The views on this walk will certainly confirm that description. Our start and end point for the walk will be The Dell – a destination for all the family. The Dell’s renovated double decker bus ‘Boycie’ stands proud under the beech trees and is now a café serving coffee, cakes, snacks and pastries. A retired safari tent sits alongside the bus, which is an inviting bar and restaurant named ‘Beech Bar’. Said to be ‘Hampshire’s Biggest Beer Garden’, The Dell has space for everyone (and their dog) to grab a drink and enjoy the view over Hampshire’s rolling countryside.

The cafe opens bright and early on Saturday and Sunday from 8:30am-12pm; serving hot and cold drinks, pastries and cakes. From 12pm on Saturday the Beech Bar opens its doors to serve Hampshire’s celebrated beer and cider, as well as your favourite tipple, and from 4pm the restaurant begins serving delicious wood-fired, sourdough pizzas.

What more could the hungry and thirty walker ask for?!
